Central Truth

Isaac chooses not to trust and rely on God to provide safety, and God proves Himself worthy to be trusted and relied upon.

Reflections

In Genesis 26:24, God displays His glory to Isaac and comforts him by reminding Isaac that He is with him always, and by reminding him of the covenant God made with Abraham. Isaac was intimidated by the Philistines, and because of that, he lost sight of the promises God had given to him and the men before him.

I can see this in my own life as well. I can remember too many times where I let my current obstacles intimidate me to the point that I lost sight of the promises God had given me as His child. It's so funny to me how easy it is sometimes to lose perspective over a situation. Our Father clearly gave us the promise that He always has our best interest at heart and uses every situation to bring about His glory and bring us into a closer relationship with Him. He puts us in hard places to push us and mold us into the men and women He made us to be. The funny part is that when we are in these situations, we more often than not forget the small detail that He does this out of a sincere, deep love for us.

What I'm trying to say is this: God is our loving Father that is constantly teaching us. When we find ourselves in tough places, we need to stop, pray, and remember the promises He has for His children.

Discussion Questions

1. In what areas of life am I acting like Isaac?

2. What are the promises of God that I forget all too often?

3. How can I start to change the way I look at the situations I am in right now?

Jason, It's so easy to shift from Trust and relaying on God to doing what I think is right, not consulting God. Then I am in trouble then I go to God. He (Jesus) says Seek me first... First go to Him for confirmation of what to do for all decision! All things are possible with our Lord Christ Jesus!
