WALK THE WALK, TALK THE TALK!
- Key Verse
- "Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the Lord had made His journey successful." (Genesis 24:21)
READ THE CHAPTER
Central Truth
During this whole time, Rebakah was working ever-so-diligently to give the ten male strangers water and also give the ten camels water, just to prove that the servant's journey was a success.
Reflections
I entitled this entry "Walk The Walk, Talk The Talk!" because we sometimes tell a person we will pray for them, or we say, "God bless you" to someone we don't even know, but do we really pray for that person? Do we really share our faith and trust in God? Abraham's servant, Eliezer, put his faith in God with prayer and he did all that Abraham asked him to do.What about Rebekah, who reached out and gave water to someone she did not know? She faithfully and willingly gave water to all those camels, not to mention Eliezer, who didn't lift a finger because he wanted to see if she was just talk and to see if she would be a good wife for Abraham's son.
For me, I do a little of both. I say "God bless you," but do I really mean it or just say it because it's the right thing to say? I also say, "I will pray for you," but I sometimes don't.
Sometimes I do a better job at following through. For example, a co-worker will approach me and ask me to pray for a friend or a relative. Later, I will reach out to that person and either hold their hand or put my hand on their shoulder and pray. In restaurants, I have reached out to a waiter/waitress and asked if there is anything I can pray for them about before I say grace.
So you see, we are basically like Eliezer, who was a faithful servant to both Abraham and God, but who wasn't sure if his journey would be a success until his prayer was answered. We are not really sure about some things until our prayers have been answered. And just like both Eliezer and Rebekah, we must first talk the talk, then walk the walk. Or, should that be reversed: "Share God's love and mean it."
Discussion Questions
1. Do you faithfully share God's love with others outside your comfort zone?2. Do you really mean it when you say "God bless you," or do you feel that is just the respectful thing to say?
3. Do you ever feel unsure about something, and, like Eliezer, feel uncertain that your journey will be a success until your prayer has been answered?
4. Would you share water with a stranger in need like Rebekah did?

Hey Chris, Great things to think about. You are right... I think that many people say they will do things with good intentions such as prey, etc. but find themselves (me included)not following through. This will be a very good challenge and reminder for me to think about and to follow through with as I continue on my walk with Christ. Peace Brother.

Great work Chris - I totally agree. I have accepted that my good intentions to pray for others at a later date sometimes dont materialize. So, I've tried to remove "I'll pray for you" from my vocabulary and have relaced it with "Let's pray right now." whenever I can. Thanks for a great devo - Sol

Great job Chris, so easy to say the words and so hard to do the work. I agree, we need to but I fall in that area too.Good reminder for all of us. Thanks for sharing:)
