- Key Verse

READ THE CHAPTER
Central Truth
Have confidence in God, stay on His path, and have faith He will protect you from the wicked.
Reflections
Do we lack confidence because we are sinners? Do we worry because we do not have strong enough faith? Is worrying caused by sin, and sparking even more sin in our lives?Worrying about bills. Worrying about health. Worrying about friends. Worrying about situations. Why do we worry?
We have an all-powerful God who provides for our every need, if we follow His path. We should be confident in His plan for our lives. Are we worrying because we often stray from His path and say, "We've got this, God," and put God on the back burner?
David's words in these verses blow me away because he is strong and steadfast in his walk with the Lord. He seems to have all the confidence in the world that God will protect him from the wicked and that he is free from sin.
I wish I could say I have the confidence of David, but my actions show that I don't. I am the queen of worrying. I worry over everything, and I let the little things stay in my mind throughout the day and sometimes hold on to them so much that it affects my mood or even my health. Why do I worry so much when I have such a strong and faithful God?
In Matthew 6:25 Jesus said, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?"
I realize that worrying is something we all do, but as Christians we should have a strong faith that Christ will destroy the wicked and provide for us, if we walk on His path. I believe that if we focus on staying on path with God and not sinning, the worrying issue will take care of itself. In doing this, it will help us gain more confidence in God. If our focus is on Christ, and how strong He is, we won't have time to focus on the worries of the world or even care to.
Discussion Questions
1. What are some things you worry about constantly?2. What are some ways you stray from God's path?
Challenge:
Spend the next week truly focusing on God, staying on His path, doing everything you can to not sin. See how that affects the amount of time you spend worrying, as it should help you be constantly reminded that God is awesome and has complete control of your life, so why worry?

Well said, Ginny. When the strain of living in this fallen world weighs down on me, I think about the song, "It is Well with My Soul," and the story behind it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYP--c2LTfg. Sometimes, it all comes crashing in on us, but if it is well with our souls, we can find peace and security in the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

I love David's absolute faith and confidence in God's love for, and his protection of, sinners. David surely knew his sinful state, yet here we see the doubtless pursuit of God's heart. Paraphrasing Rick Warren: "If you can worry, you are already meditating...

Oh Lord, hide me in the shadow of Your wings this morning... allow me to take refuge in You when tempted to worry, especially about things beyond my control! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFSlIoh_UXA

Reading Psalm 17 I can only imagine it as Jesus' prayer. Though David was after God's own heart, we know only too well that he was truly no better than any other sinner. In that respect we see David's prophecy of Messiah, since only Christ can truthfully claim no deceit in his lips. What blessed grace God has bestowed on us by giving His son to the lions, that we may live! Today I pray for humility in all things and to constantly seek God in gratitude and confession.

Sometimes I am tempted to get angry because it appears that those who do not follow God get the most out of this life. Even though that may appear true I need to learn to rest in v15.
