KNOWING AND FOLLOWING GOD'S WILL

Key Verse
"Isaac trembled violently and said, 'Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him -- and indeed he will be blessed!'" (Genesis 27:33)

Central Truth

God wants ALL of us to know and follow His will in ALL aspects of our lives. By knowing and following His will, we will love Him, worship Him, honor Him, and obey Him with our lives.

Reflections

"Visibly shocked when the scandal was uncovered by the entrance of Esau, the father remembered the Lord's words to Rebekah (25:23), refused to withdraw the blessing and emphatically affirmed its validity--'indeed he shall be blessed' and a little later, 'indeed I have made him your master' and also, 'you shall serve your brother' (vv. 37,40). Sudden realization at having opposed God's will all those years likely made the shock more severe." - John MacArthur Study Bible.

Isaac was a man who actually saw God working His will in his father, Abraham's, life. He also knew God's will for his immediate family. Still, he wanted to do things his way. WOW! What a story!

Years ago, as a young husband and daddy, I was doing things my way. I was making good money and working a lot of hours -- not spending quality time with my new family -- but providing their food, clothing and shelter. Then God got my attention and showed me how my priorities and my prayer life were not being carried out according to His will for my life, both as a husband and as a daddy. I was raised in church and had been taught better. If you want to hear my whole testimony, I will be glad to share all of it with you.

Knowing God's will and doing God's will is totally different.

We serve an awesome God who wants us to know Him personally. He wants us to talk to Him daily. He wants to fellowship with us. WOW! How exciting is this! God actually wants us to know Him and His will. This really blows my mind.

Excellent perspective this morning! The timing was exceptional given our discussions this morning in Journeymen about characteristics of a servant leader as it relates to our roles and husbands and fathers. This devotional today really drives home Tim's comments this morning. Thanks for sharing!
